Waddington and West Bradford CE Primary School

Waddington and West Bradford CE Primary School was founded in 1875 to serve the children of the villages of Waddington and West Bradford. In recent years the numbers of children have increased, and the school now takes in pupils from Clitheroe and many of the surrounding villages.

The school is very successful; it is currently one of the top 200 schools in the country (based on the achievement data from 2014).  It has steadily improved, moving from Ofsted gradings of ‘Satisfactory’ (2011) to ‘Good’ (2013) and is now well on the way to being ‘Outstanding’.

Over the past seven years, the school building has been enhanced and improved.  It currently comprises of seven classrooms, an ICT suite, a school library, hall, and staffroom.  Due to the efforts of the fantastic Friends’ association, one of the most recent enhancements has been the addition of a kitchen area so that pupils can learn to prepare and cook food.

Outside, the school has a wonderful playing field, playgrounds and a multi-purpose sports pitch.

The head teacher, Sarah Healey has been in post since 2007 and is supported by a wonderful team of teaching and non-teaching staff, most of who have worked together for many years.

The school works closely with the local communities taking part in projects such as:

  • Planting daffodils around the phone-box
  • The choir singing to residents of Waddington hospital
  • Taking part in an art project to celebrate 50 years of the Forest of Bowland being an area of outstanding natural beauty
  • Working with local residents on commemorations for World War 2
  • Growing and planting wildflowers to help restore a local meadow
  • Working alongside residents of Waddington hospital to create a wall-hanging

In recent times, Waddington and West Bradford School has won many awards, including being designated a ‘Green Flag’ Eco-school, and a Fair-trade school. There have been ’Learning Excellence’ awards for the maths teaching, and also the creative curriculum. The Lancashire newspaper group awarded the school ‘Sustainable school of the year’ in both 2013 and 2014. Most recently, the school won the ‘Sainsburys’ School Games’ silver award.

In addition to all of this, the children are happy and well behaved.  It is an absolute pleasure to be part of this school family.  More information can be found on the school website: www.wwb.lancs.sch.uk
